Graves Disappear in Sims 3?

my sim stole graves from the graveyard and i wanted to put them in my yard. i went on family inventory and placed the graves on the grass, but as soon as i let go, the grave disappeared. i checked the graveyard and the grave isnt there either. does anyone know where it is and how i could place the graves so they wont disappear?
