Sims 3 Wont Let Me Play Because of Update?

When I go to open up Sims the first little window opens up (the one where you can click the Play button that leads into the full screen mode thingy) but then an update pops up that says an update is available and it asks if I want to update. So if I say yes it starts updating but then stops for some reason and if I say no it just closes the game. It might be because there's not enough space on my computer but Im not sure how to make it work. Any help??
