Can I return my game?

I bought sims 3 for my computer but when i put it in nothing happens. Ive tried clicking start, then run, then typing in D:AutoRun.exe but nothing happens. I want to take the game back but the person forgot to give my mom the reciept. And the game has been opened. Will walmart take the game back and let me get a different disc?
