Can i play pc games with wifi?

theres a computer game i been playin on the desktop computer but i wana play it in my room so i would have to get a laptop and use the wifi i was wondering if using the wifi would be the same speed as using the regular computer connected to the modem. Its a sims type game alot of downloading of environments and such would that be a problem using wifi?
